She Got Hit with an Umbrella-ella-ella!

Ok, I’m reluctant to post anything on this as fact since it is still early, but this Chris Brown and Rihanna situation strikes a couple of notes with me (no pun intended). First and I know I’m going to catch heat for this, I’ve never really “felt” Rihanna. I’m not sure if it’s her persona, or the fact that she really reminds me of an old flame that I no longer have a very strong affinity for, to put it lightly. Of course this isn’t to say that I’m happy to hear that she may be the victim of violence. Quite the opposite!

Honest to goodness, when everyone else was acting giddy at the idea of Chris and Rihanna “booing up”, something told me that it wasn’t going to end well. Rihanna strikes me as the type of female that can really “run a person up the flagpole” (drive you nuts). After the news came out that they were together, I expressed my thoughts to one of my female friends. She simply looked at me as if I was nuts, and dismissed my observations like the incoherent rants of a drunken wino… Who’s the ass now?

All jokes aside though, there is actually very dark side to this alleged situation that is really unfortunate. MTV spoke with Emil Wilbekin, an editor for Giant magazine, on Monday. In 2007 Giant released an interview with Brown in which he discussed how his mother had been physically abused by his stepfather. “He used to hit my mom,” Chris was quoted as saying. “He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself. I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day.’… I hate him to this day.”

In his MTV interview, Emil Wilbekin observed what is usually an unfortunate truth of domestic abuse; the continuation of the behavior in the children. I’m sure most people were very surprised to hear the news, and if it turns out to be true (which at this point is almost assured) this will certainly tarnish Brown’s image, but let’s not forget these are real people, with real emotions, and none of us were in the car with the couple when he went Ike Turner on her.

Like I said earlier, I’m not a fan of her or her music, especially after being forced to listen to a couple of her songs while in the car with female friends. To tell the truth, after that ordeal I wanted to kick her a$$ myself… But that’s another story…
